Keratin vs. conditioning treatments: questions before booking

Compare the treatment options listed at Eleven Eleven, clarify the intended finish and ask product-specific questions before choosing a smoothing appointment.

The short answer

Do not choose a treatment from its name alone. First establish whether the goal is conditioning or a change in the hair's day-to-day finish, then ask about the exact product, procedure, maintenance and suitability. The salon's menu lists these as separate services.

Describe the finish and the routine

Tell the stylist whether the priority is easier styling, a smoother finish or simply a conditioning appointment. Explain whether natural curls should remain prominent and how the hair is usually dried. The plan should address that preference explicitly rather than leave the meaning of 'smoother' open to interpretation.

Ask how the proposed service interacts with previous color or chemical work and whether appointments should be planned separately. No universal timeline or result is promised here; the answer depends on the actual procedure and the client's hair.

  • What exact product will be used?
  • What change in finish is expected?
  • How does the plan account for existing color and texture?
  • What preparation and aftercare does that product require?
  • What is included in the appointment and final quote?

Use product information, not safety assumptions

The FDA explains that some hair-smoothing products release formaldehyde when heated, while not all contain it. It recommends asking salon professionals about product ingredients and precautions. Words such as 'keratin' or 'organic' should not be treated as a complete ingredient disclosure or an assurance of safety.

This is general booking information, not medical advice or a safety certification of a product used at the salon. Discuss health concerns or previous reactions with a qualified healthcare professional and the stylist before treatment.

When uncertain, book a conversation first

Eleven Eleven offers a free consultation. A short discussion can clarify which service needs further assessment, what information to bring and whether the requested result matches the available options. Choosing the most expensive treatment is not a substitute for that discussion.
